An Akili Bursary Student – in the real world

We were delighted to receive some photographs and an email from an ex-Akili bursary student Lawrence who has recently graduated from the World Vision Kenya Graduate Intern Program. This is a huge deal for someone who has worked himself incredibly hard to reach this incredibly competitive scheme. We are very proud of him, and are excited to share his email with you. And to quote Lawrence himself – “The sky is not the limit – I believe I am destined to greater heights”.

Dear Pam,

Hello, its my sincere hope that you are fine. I would like to take this opportunity to share briefly on World Vision Kenya Graduate Internship Program (GRIP) which I recently graduated from. I joined this program on October 2016, after submitting an online application and a total of 4000 fresh graduates had applied I was among the 78 candidates who were shortlisted for an interview. I remember vividly that I received the notification for the interview during the time i was working with Debate mate team lead and Akili Trustee Jessica. I went through rigorous interview and thereafter I was among the 24 fresh graduates who joined the program for a period of 1 year.

This program is designed to provide real work experience and professional development to university Christian graduates to impact the national workforce. Through the graduate internship program, fresh graduates in various disciples from both private and public universities are placed in rural and urban settings for one year as World Vision Kenya intern. I was personal absorb as a Health intern attached to Maternal newborn and child health-Healthy Timing and Spacing of Pregnancies program and i was sent to the rural areas of North Eastern Kenya in Laisamis areas development program in Marsabit county.

This internship program offer me with real work experience under the guidance of dedicated professional supervisors who ensured that am ready for the work place and committed to servant leader leadership in the society. It inculcates in me the qualities of esprit de corps, hard work, devoir, endurance and trust in God thus impacting my personal and professional life in mighty way.It has been great interacting and working with children during Anti-FGM awareness forums, school health clubs and RC monitoring as they share their desire to see FGM abolished in their communities, improve health status and obtain quality education despite the fact that they are nomadic pastoralists.

The climax of the internship is a colorful Graduation celebration at World Vision Kenya National offices at karen grounds Nairobi.

Attached are some photos.

Regards, Lawrence
