Welcome to the Akili Newsletter, December 2016

We have some excellent news about one of our first bursary students to share it with you. Lawrence Nzai has just graduated with a first class B Sc degree in Environmental Health from the University of Kabianga. This is a very deserved result for such a hard working and clever student and the whole community is absolutely thrilled with his success.

Lawrence writes: Today was my graduation ceremony at the University of Kabianga. I would like to take this opportunity to extend my sincere gratitude and appreciation for your support towards my academic journey! Today was my greatest day as I was conferred with Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health, First class honours. Long live Akili Trust for making my dream a reality. Special thanks to Pam Dix and other trustees who sacrifice a lot to support the sponsorship and library services. Thanks to Frederick Kittu, Madam Janet, Cornelius, Mr Yongo and all the stakeholders for your continued support and guidance and above all God for His protection and favour! Thanks. We can today smile like other youngstars (sic) because Akili Trust made our life ambitions a reality … So proud of Akili Trust as celebrate this milestone.

Lawrence worked as a team teacher with the Debate Mate programme in our schools this summer. He particularly helped them chose the subjects for debate. We will give you a more detailed update on this in our next newsletter.

The popular Akili Quiz night on 6 November was another very successful event. It was much enjoyed by about 100 Akili supporters and will raise about £2000 for the Trust.
