Anne has had a lifelong interest in education, as a teacher, writer, local politician and administrator. Before she retired she was the Director of Education in Tower Hamlets, a multi-racial London borough, where she was responsible for overseeing 100 plus schools, and other educational services, including a school library service.
Now aged 78, Anne has three grown up children and six grandchildren. She is the older sister of Nicci Crowther, the founder of the Akili Trust. After Nicci’s tragically early death at the age of 58, Anne joined the Akili trustees to help bring about the realisation of her sister’s dream.
Anne’s contribution to the Trust consists mostly of pursuing sources of funding for the charity. She attends and writes the minutes for the trustees’ regular meetings. and also provides storage space for all the books that are collected for shipment to Kenya.
