Anne is the older sister of Nicci and says that she ‘became a trustee of Akili primarily to ensure that the work Nicci started carries on, - though its aims and purposes are what I have cared about all my life'.
Anne retired as the Director of Education for Tower Hamlets in 1997. Before that she was involved in education variously as a teacher, parent, governor, local councillor and columnist.
She was a trustee of the Nuffield Foundation from 1990 to 2005. In that capacity, as well as overseeing its work in education, she chaired the advisory committees of the Elizabeth Nuffield Education Fund (promoting the education and training of women) and the Commonwealth Relations Trust (supporting collaborative projects between organisations in the UK and sub-Saharan Africa).
She was the Chair of the National Children’s Bureau from 2000 to 2006, and is still a trustee of a number of other charities.
